Help me write my DrupalCon Amsterdam keynote

Dries Buytaert's website - Mon, 11/08/2014 - 12:56pm
Topic: DrupalDrupalCon

For my DrupalCon Amsterdam keynote, I want to try something slightly different. Instead of coming up with the talk track myself, I want to "crowdsource" it. In other words, I want the wider Drupal community to have direct input on the content of the keynote.

Fostering inclusivity and diversity

Dries Buytaert's website - Wed, 02/07/2014 - 6:16pm
Topic: Drupal

The past few weeks, I've been thinking over and over again trying to rationalize how to best foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity. This in the context of creating a productive work climate of trust and respect.

Drupal 6 support

Dries Buytaert's website - Wed, 18/06/2014 - 5:08pm
Topic: Drupal

The policy of the Drupal community is to support only the current and previous stable versions of Drupal. If we maintain that policy, Drupal 6 support would be dropped the day that Drupal 8 is released. We'd only support Drupal 8 and Drupal 7.

A method for giving credit to organizations that contribute code to Open Source

Dries Buytaert's website - Wed, 04/06/2014 - 11:46am
Topic: Drupal

If we want to encourage more organizations to contribute to Drupal and hire core developers, we should start to give them credit for their contributions. I'd love to see us maintain a page on that shows which companies contribute to Drupal and in what capacity. This credit provides these organizations a tangible benefit in recruiting developers, demonstrating their expertise, and more. Credit is a powerful motivator for individuals, but also for businesses.

The investment case for employing a Drupal core contributor

Dries Buytaert's website - Wed, 07/05/2014 - 9:40pm
Topic: DrupalAcquiaBusiness

I've long been convinced that every well-run Drupal agency of 30 people or more can afford to hire a Drupal core contributor and let him/her work on Drupal core pretty much full-time.

Acquia drops non-compete clauses

Dries Buytaert's website - Fri, 02/05/2014 - 3:22pm
Topic: BusinessAcquia

In a world where innovation is only accelerating, shackling employees with non-competes doesn't make sense anymore. At Acquia, we believe that innovation is about openness and collaboration, and that working together is based on trust and loyalty, something that was born out of our Open Source background.

From content management to digital experience management

Dries Buytaert's website - Wed, 15/01/2014 - 2:06pm

Happy 13th birthday Drupal! It’s hard to believe so much has happened with Drupal when it really just started as a little hobby project. I'm super proud of what we accomplished. After all these years, it continues to be a passion and labor of love to grow, maintain and sustain the larger community.

Over the past twelve months, I’ve become a bit of an obsessive follower of Bitcoin. It started after I read Satoshi Nakamoto’s original Bitcoin paper. It was a fascinating read and my first introduction to crypto-currencies. I even had a couple of lunches in Boston with Gavin Andresen, Bitcoin’s current project lead.

I'm turning 35 today. 35 is a weird age. It feels like a milestone birthday; like I'm turning the corner into adulthood for good. Turning 35, it seems, is not without complications. I feel like I became part of the old folk whose cool is threatened by youngsters. Anxious, as I've so much left to achieve and experience.
