Held for the first time in Egypt under the auspices of President Hosni Mubarak during the period from 16-23 August, the 20th round of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) kicked off at Mubarak City for Education in 6th of October Governorate. IOI is an annual international informatics competition for youths under 20 held in one of the member States in the International Informatics Committee. About 320 contestants representing 80 countries and aged between 12–20 years are taking part in this year's contest. The contest is organized by MCIT in cooperation with the Ministries of Education, Interior, Civil Aviation, Tourism and Higher Education and Scientific Research and Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
